SA8000 CertificationSA8000:2001 was replaced in June 2008 with the third edition of SA8000 - SA8000: 2008 Social Accountability 8000, is formally adopted and published by Social Accountability International-SAI.
SA8000,as the audit standard for a third party system of certification, establishes voluntary requirements to be fulfilled by employers in the workplace, including employee rights, conditions of work and management systems.
The legal basis of this standard is the national legislation, international human rights conventions and the International Labor Organization-ILO.
SA8000 Standard is the indicator on which organizations can measure performance, by adopting policies and procedures for protecting fundamental human rights for employees.
SA8000 standard require organizations to establish policies on social responsibility and working conditions and develop procedure for assessing, selecting suppliers and subcontractors.
The SA8000: 2008 specifies explicitly that the employment of children as employees, needs finnancial supoort for recovery. Also another new aspect is the expressed prohibition of any involvement in trafficking with human beings in the section entitled "Forced and compulsory labor ".
